Background music runs only partially

4 messages

Hi,
I couldn't find a hint for my problem on that forum so far so I ask now generally for some help (for Tomb Raider backed by Glidos). I recently downloaded the audio packs and installed them in the glidos file. At first all seemed to run smoothly with the dialogues in the entry sequence and the thrilling background music in level one. But after that the music has vanished – nothing more in level two and three apart from the basic sounds. Can I do anything to fix that? Suggestions are warmly welcome.

My system data are: PC with Windows 2000 SP 4, 640 MB RAM, Pentium III 800 Mhz, NVIDIA Geforce 4 TI 4800. Original TR Gold version. TR runs in DVD drive 'D'. V1.36 Glidos

(1.) What basic sounds are you referring to?

(2.) I've discovered that the sound control will sometimes disconnect for no known reason.

(3.) Something like this happened to me, and what I had to do was this:

Start the program and go to the Title Page. Spin the menu ring around until you get to the Sound setup emblem. Open that item. Make sure to highlight the top item ("10" next to the MUSICAL NOTE symbol), then press Enter. Then go into the game. If the music is still not working, you may want to try (while IN the game itself) bringing up the inventory list, go to the ingame menu ring to where the sound control item is and do the same thing as described above.

If this doesn't work, let us know.

Thanks so far for answering.
1. Basic sounds are the sounds of Lara walking & firing, wolves howling, the short melody when having discovered a secret, etc. Distinct from the orchestral music being played in first level. 2. Tried before to change sound settings in the sound emblem from menu ring. Didn't help before loading a game or ingame. Musical note emblem with '10' remains as chosen. Still no music. Wonder what hell of a mystery this problem is.

I'm guessing that you have a glidos server icon on the desktop to play the game.

I'm puzzled why it doesn't fully work. You may have to completely wipe the entire game, reinstall it, and start over. Including deleting and replacing the desktop icon for the glidos connection for the executable, using the "Open with VDMSound" feature.

BUT BEFORE YOU DO THAT: (1) Check with Glidos Paul (Paul Gardiner). It may simply be an adjustment needed in the glidos server. Paul would know more about that.

(2) Check your desktop icon properties. See if the box is checked by "Enable VESA support". If it isn't, then checkmark it. Look for something like "Enable...mscdex". If it's there and isn't checkmarked, then checkmark. (although if it isn't you probably wouldn't be getting ANY sound in the game) :)

(3) Also go into the TRGold file and check the Properties on the executable you built the desktop icon from. Look for the same "Enable.." features as listed above. (You may have to use the Advanced option on the properties pages to find these). If they're not checkmarked here also, it may not work properly or not at all (not on my system at least).

(4) You might have to delete the audio files in the Glidos file and reinstall it with the audio pack repair kit. It's always possible to get a corrupt or incomplete install. Your pc may have been feeling cranky that day. :)

???...I think MY pc is feeling cranky EVERY day. :(
